MYKONOS FERRY INFORMATION AND SCHEDULES

The information and schedules below are for the Summer Season of 2009 for Ferries from Athens (Pireaus) to Mykonos and from Mykonos to Athens (Pireaus).

There are daily departures of ferries as well as high speed ferry from Pireaus to Mykonos Island in the Cyclades. There are several maritime companies that are serving Mykonos throughout the year.

REGULAR FERRY TRAVEL FROM ATHENS TO MYKONOS:

If you decide to take the normal (slow) ferry from Piraeus to Mykonos, the normal travel time is around five to five-and-a-half hours. The same applies for trips from Mykonos to Athens. The trip from Pireaus is actually longer than if you take the ferry from the port of Rafina to Mykonos but since the port of Rafina is not easily accessible by public transportation, most foreign visitors choose the port of Pireaus for their trip.

The regular ferry features three classes of travel. Deck, where you have no assigned seats, A Class where you don’t have assigned seats but you have access to the A Class lounges exclusively for A Class passengers and Cabin. If you are on a budget, we recommend going on Deck or A Class. Cabins are not really necessary for such a short trip on the ferry unless you are travelling at night and you are tired and would like to sleep.

HIGH-SPEED FERRY TRAVEL FROM ATHENS TO MYKONOS AND VICE VERSA:

If you choose to take one of the high-speed ferries, that carry various names such as Highspeed or Speedrunner, the trip from Athens to Mykonos is shortened to about three-and-a-half to four hours. However, the ferry cannot carry vehicles and you normally cannot go outside during the boat ride. You are restricted in a similar fashion as if you were flying a plane. However, the ferry does have a cafeteria for snacks, spacious bathroom facilities and considerably more space than an airplane.

There are several ferry companies that do the trip from Athens to Mykonos and from Mykonos to Athens. Schedules change frequently but the latest published schedules for the Summer of 2009 are listed below by ferry company.

FERRY FROM MYKONOS TO OTHER ISLANDS

The ferries that go to Mykonos also go to other islands. There are several schedules and depending on your islandhopping schedule, you are the best to determine which schedule fits your itinerary. There are normally four different routes for the ferries that dock in Mykonos. The ferry from Mykonos to Santorini for example or from Santorini to Mykonos, are three times a week in the summer, so you will need to schedule your stays around that. Ferries normally start and finish in Athens in the port of Pireaus.
